If you write for a website, you want your readers to feel your personality shining through with your voice, design sense, and ideas. The question, of course, is how?
Writing Is A Creative Writing Process
As creative people, we want to put our personality into our work. But how do you write with personality? We’ve gathered five key steps that all bloggers should follow when writing blog posts or articles for their website.
Begin With A Strong Introduction
Your introduction is the most critical part of your presentation in writing. It sets the stage for everything that’s to come. If you can’t grab your audience’s attention right away, it’ll be lost before you even get to your main points.
Remember that your audience isn’t going to read your mind. Use these steps to get your audience’s attention, even if it has to be through a screen reader. Learn More
Write “Why”
Before you write, you first need to develop an actionable headline that states what your post is all about. Choose an essential topic for your audience, and plunge into the action with a powerful statement. It is one of the most important things to remember as we start a blog/article writing session. Learn More
The Headline “What?”
Before we write anything, we need to keep two things in mind:
- What are we trying to say?
- What does our audience want to know?
- To find the answer to the question, we need to look at our past content and brainstorm ideas.
- A successful blog is founded on a well-written headline.
- No matter what type of content you’re writing, you need to think about your audience’s needs before you begin writing.
- Because ultimately, the only person who can decide to click on your blog is yourself.
Write Down Brainstorm Content Ideas
Your blog visitors are not reading an abstract paragraph. They want to read an action that sparks curiosity. By looking at your most popular page, you can tease out ideas for blog posts that will help your audience understand your past posts and understand your message.
It is where brainstorming comes into play. We’ll use a technique known as “collecting ideas” to develop new headline ideas. As you brainstorm, list your top three or four views. Next, list the most interesting one or two that you think might make a good blog post. Learn More
Use action verbs to give life to your writing. Excellent copywriting is about telling the truth. Great writing comes from a place of honesty and humility because people recognize the humanness in what you’re trying to say.
You are sharing what matters, not just your latest fad diet or over-shareworthy tweets.
It’s OK to tell the truth – and nothing else.
Write “THE TRUTH”
As a blogger or writer, if you want to put people at ease with your content, you’ll tell the truth. And if you said ‘the truth,’ you’d also add a pinch of humility. We like humility. It means you respect yourself and realize that you’ve made a mistake that can be frustrating to your readers.
Humility helps when you’re ready to include something in your content (even if it’s just a sentence or a few sentences) that you may not want or may not want to tell your personal story.
SEO is an example that humbles us a lot – we don’t want our readers to know everything. We cover our own stories with our posts, but we don’t want to be a complete nuisance to our audience. Learn More.
If you’re not telling the whole truth in your content, you shouldn’t publish it.
Also, be sure to include your email address in your content so that your readers can contact you for any feedback (if it’s not apparent what you’re referring to or why you’re writing about the topic.
It helps readers understand that just because you’re a cyborg doesn’t mean your readers should feel inferior by assuming you speak the same language).
Permit People To Tell Their Story
A theme running through all the above steps is ‘permission’ – that you permit people to tell their stories. Sam has written a great post on this later.
Relate your topic to your readers and their problems; what works for each writer?
Write like you. You can’t build your blog or create content on the internet just like you would on a page at home. So you must use good grammar and sentence structure when creating your blog posts.
Grammar is probably everyone’s most significant frustration point when writing online. And there are many times when this frustration doesn’t show itself until someone looks at your post. Have you ever looked at the title tags and noticed that they’re all the same size?
Bantering aside, writing with a bit more personality in your writing will help make you both click and respond to your audience much faster than a rambling paragraph. When it comes to your content, prepare to swim.
Think Of The Reader When You Write
If the internet is a relatively new place, many people aren’t even sure what it is. So don’t assume that just because your audience is online, they all want to read what you have to say.
When writing blog posts or articles, you should always focus on your target audience and how they will get the most out of what you have to say.
- Remember that your happiness is not what makes everyone else happy
- Focus on helping others find what makes them happy
- Talk about times you were unhappy frequently to drive the point home
Bring Your Unique Voice To The Table
Don’t just go with the other techniques that bloggers use. Most of those bloggers aren’t creative enough to create something truly original. Instead, maybe you want to test out the anchor text.
Back-Up Your Points With Research And Facts
Use research and facts to back up your points. If you’re trying to get your audience to take action, tell them why they should. People may not act on your advice if they don’t know the benefits of your recommendation.
To get your audience to act on your advice, you need to tell them why. Put the camera in and witness the reaction of the audience. Audiences will be grateful to you for sharing the benefits of your services.
Don’t Write For The Medium
“Writing for web platforms is hard.” It’s impossible to write for every web platform because different mediums express different emotions and ideas.
For this reason, we write for different mediums to state our other ideas. Also, writing on a platform where many people comment means people are interested.
If writing on a platform where many people comment makes you feel insecure, you should not write on it. Writers on chat platforms are not insecure; they always elaborate on each point they have to say to get into the conversation. Learn More.
Further, since these users can see the writers’ drafts before publishing, they can see how they express themselves verbally. All this allows them to impact the discussion. If you don’t write on a platform where you could influence the conversation, don’t write on one.
Twitter is the best example of where writing on a platform can impact the discussion.
Both Dave Ramsey and Suze Orman have written for Twitter, and you can see what their words have been capitalized, modified, and edited — and how quickly they get out of the conversation once the writing is over.
- Write on your blog to influence your audience.
Write on a Platform Where Readers Choose Your Points
“I’ve spent the last five weeks reading hundreds of blog posts. I’ve learned a lot. Some of it is information I never knew, and some of it is new information that I can’t put into words. I can quite easily remember some of it, and some I can’t remember at all. Learn More.

Hi Kevin,
From my experience, there are several ways to do this. You can look at the person or people you are writing for and try to think about what they would want or need. You can also think about what you would like or need in that situation. It should help you come up with some ideas about what they might be interested in, which will help make your content more relevant and exciting for them.
However, there are still some things that you should keep in mind when writing with personality.
1) Be honest and genuine with yourself and your readers. It is easy for people to see through a phony persona, so don’t try to be someone you’re not.
2) Speak from the heart and share something personal with your readers. If you can make them feel like they know you on an intimate level, then they will trust what you say more easily
3) Use humor or sarcasm sparingly but make sure it’s appropriate for the audience

Hello, Safia, Thanks for sharing your tips here at Can I Be a Writer. When read, people will connect with the advice you shared.
Cheers,
Kevin
Let me start by appreciating how you use images in your article; they connect. I have written a couple of articles, and I can bear witness to the good use of headlines and introductions that are catchy. A good headline will grab your audience’s attention, while a catchy introduction will help you keep their attention.
Hello, Parameter, Thank you for sharing your thoughts here. Best wishes for your success in writing.
Cheers,
Kevin
